How much more does a flagship phone cost in the UK than the same phone bought internationally? On 1 October 2026 we checked the official UK store price of 20 phone configurations from Samsung, Google, OPPO and Xiaomi, and compared each one with our own price for the international version, delivered to the UK with import duty and VAT already paid. Here is what we found, including the cases where UK offers beat us.
Update, 11 October 2026: the figures in this study are a snapshot from 1 October 2026. Our prices change with supplier costs, so the current price is always on each product page and in our individual comparison posts.
The headline numbers
- Average gap: £355.75, or 25.5% below the UK RRP (median 25.9%).
- 16 of the 20 configurations were at least 20% below the UK RRP, and 9 of the 20 were at least 30% below.
- Biggest saving in pounds: Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra 512GB, £2,069 in the UK against £1,393.95 here, a gap of £675.05.
- Biggest saving in percentage terms: Galaxy Z Flip8 256GB, 37.5% below the UK RRP.
- Smallest gap: the standard Galaxy Z Fold8, only 6.7% to 7.5% below the UK RRP, and Samsung UK’s current cashback more than closes that gap (see below).

Where UK offers close the gap, or beat us
A list price is not always what you pay. Manufacturer cashback, retailer discounts and trade-in deals can change the picture, so here is where they matter on the day we checked:
- Galaxy Z Fold8: Samsung UK is offering £350 cashback. That brings the 256GB model to an effective £1,349, which is £221.95 less than our £1,570.95, and the 1TB model to £1,859, which is £200.95 less than our £2,059.95. If you will claim the cashback, Samsung UK is the better deal on the standard Fold8.
- Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra: with Samsung UK’s £400 cashback, the 1TB model works out at £2,009, which is £46.95 less than ours. The 256GB and 512GB models are still cheaper here even after cashback (£1,499 vs £1,300.95, and £1,669 vs £1,393.95).
- Galaxy Z Flip8: Samsung UK’s £250 cashback brings the 256GB model to £899, still £181.05 more than our £717.95.
- UK retailer discounts: high-street and online retailers often sell below the manufacturer’s price. On the day we checked, UK retailers were selling the standard Galaxy S26 and the Galaxy S26 Ultra for less than our price, so it is worth comparing street prices as well as RRPs on those models.
- Trade-in: Samsung, Google and OPPO all offer trade-in deals in the UK. If you have a phone to trade in, get a quote and compare the final figure.
Why is there a gap at all?
Manufacturers set different prices in different countries. Phones sold in Hong Kong are generally priced well below UK list prices, even once UK import duty and 20% VAT are added. We buy international versions in Hong Kong and ship them to UK customers with the duty and VAT already paid, so the price you see is the price you pay and there is nothing extra to pay on delivery. You can read how that works in Do I have to pay import fees on tech from TechInOut?
What you give up for the lower price
- International versions: the phones are international models, not UK-market stock. Check the model code and network bands on the product page before you order.
- Warranty: the warranty is provided by TechInOut rather than the manufacturer’s UK arm. See our Warranty & Repair page.
- Delivery time: orders are dispatched from Hong Kong within 1–3 business days and arrive 6–9 business days after ordering by tracked courier. UK stores can usually deliver faster.
- Manufacturer offers: UK cashback, free gifts and trade-in bonuses from the manufacturer only apply when you buy from them or their UK retail partners.
How we checked
All UK prices were taken from the manufacturers’ own UK online stores on 1 October 2026, for brand-new phones. Our prices are the live TechInOut prices on the same day for brand-new, factory-unlocked international versions. The difference is the UK RRP minus our price, and the percentage is that difference as a share of the UK RRP. We will repeat this check and publish an updated version as prices change.
