Performance & Imaging
The 24.5MP sensor is designed for high speed. While not a fully stacked sensor, its partially stacked design achieves readout speeds close to that of the Z8 and Z9, resulting in very low rolling shutter distortion. Paired with the EXPEED 7 processor, the camera offers rapid autofocus calculations (-10EV) and high-speed shooting. A “Pre-Release Capture” feature allows for recording moments up to one second before the shutter button is fully pressed.
Video Capabilities
The Z6 III is designed for serious video production, featuring internal 6K RAW (N-RAW and ProRes RAW HQ) recording. It is the first Z-series camera to feature a fully articulating screen, making it ideal for vlogging and difficult angles. It also supports 4K/60p oversampled from 6K, 4K/120p (with a slight crop), and 10x slow-motion (1080p/240p). It is the first Nikon with line-level input capability via its mic socket, plus timecode sync support.
Build, Ergonomics & Screen
The camera features a 5.76-million-dot electronic viewfinder (EVF) with 4000 nits brightness, making it 33% brighter than the flagship Z9’s viewfinder and exceptionally clear in bright light. The body is slightly larger than the Z6 II, providing a deeper, more comfortable grip. It features extensive weather sealing, equivalent to the Z9, and is robust enough for use down to -10ºC.
Connectivity & Features
The Z6 III supports Nikon’s new cloud service, the “Nikon Imaging Cloud,” for direct-to-cloud firmware updates and image storage. It features a full-size HDMI Type A port, USB-C (for charging/data), and dedicated 3.5mm microphone and headphone jacks. It also includes “Pixel Shift” shooting, allowing the merger of images for a 96-megapixel file with better color accuracy.
