Description
Design and Display
The Pixel 9a has a revised design featuring a flat back with a near-flush, pill-shaped camera cutout, abandoning the iconic, raised camera visor of previous models. It has a slightly more “generic” look compared to its predecessors, featuring thicker but more uniform bezels around the 6.3-inch Actua display. The display is highly rated for brightness (up to 2700 nits) and smoothness (120Hz), making it excellent for outdoor visibility.
Camera Capabilities
Despite being a mid-range phone, the camera is a standout feature. It utilizes a 48MP main sensor that, combined with AI, excels in low-light (Night Sight) and detailed photography. The 13MP ultra-wide lens offers a 120-degree field of view. The phone also features “Add Me,” a feature that allows the photographer to be included in group photos by merging two separate images.
Performance and AI
The Tensor G4 chip powers the 9a. This chip is also in the higher-end Pixel 9 series. The 9a is designed to run complex AI models on the device. It is integrated with Gemini. Gemini is a conversational AI assistant that can summarize emails, manage calendars, and provide real-time information.
Battery and Sustainability
The 5,100 mAh battery is a significant upgrade. It supports 23W wired charging and 7.5W wireless charging. The device uses recycled materials in its construction.
